Immerse yourself in the most famous alternative Trek: Salkantay, in this once-in-a-lifetime experience you will pass through the Salkantay pass, visit the Umantay Lake and finish in Aguas Calientes a day before for an early guided visit of Machu Picchu. Restrictions
  • Walking sticks will not be included with your purchase of the tour, however, if you prefer, we can arrange to provide you with a pair of basic poles at an extra cost.
  • If you would like to climb to Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain, please take in mind that it is an unguided hike and does require an additional cost. If you are interested, please consult with your travel specialist as we will need to check availability far in advance.

Itinerary

Day 1CUSCO – SORAYPAMPA

We will leave at 5.00 in the morning from the city of Cusco, we will pass through the towns of Izcuchaca and Limatambo arriving at the town of Mollepata around 7.00 in the morning. There we will have our breakfast, around 8:00 in the morning, we will continue in our private van to the sector called Markhuq’asa, from this point we will start our walk surrounded by a typical landscape of the Peruvian Andes, and at noon our lunch will be ready in the sector called Soraypampa, located at 3,900 meters above sea level and at the foot of the Salkantay, one of the main sacred places in the Peruvian Andes. In the afternoon we walk to the lagoon. Umantay, after the visit we will return to our base camp where we will spend the first night.

Day 2SORAYMAPA – COLLPAPAMPA

In the early morning we will enjoy our breakfast and then we will go up to the highest point of our trip, the Abra Saykantay, which is located more than 4,000 meters above sea level. We will rest and enjoy the panoramic views, and begin the descent to the valley of Collpabamba. In those moments we will quickly notice the change of climate and enjoy landscapes of the lower part of the jungle, with the formations of the rivers coming from the glaciers that become tributaries of the great Urubamba River. We will also see a great variety of Orchids, etc. We will arrive in the afternoon towards Collpabamba, where we will make our camp.

Day 3COLLPAPAMBA – AGUAS CALIENTES

After a comforting breakfast, we will start our walk appreciating a variety of crops, including the coca leaf, considered as a sacred plant from our ancestors. This last section will be downhill to Playa Sahuayaco.
There we will have a typical lunch prepared by our Andean chef and from this point we will take a local transport that will take us for an hour and 40 minutes towards Hydrohelectric accompanied by our assistant guide we are a 3-hour walk along the railroad until we reach Aguas Calientes.

Day 4MACHUPICCHU – CUSCO

At 4.30 am we will get ready to head to the Inka citadel of Machupicchu, by away in the middle of the jungle. The walk will last about an hour and a half, thus having the opportunity to register at the access control at 6:00 am and see the sunrise already inside the Machupicchu complex. We will continue the visit inside the Inca citadel accompanied by our professional guide who will share all knowledge for approximately two hours and then you will have free time to visit and take walks inside the Inka citadel. In the afternoon at the indicated time we will return by tourist train from Machupicchu town to Ollantaytambo and there we will be taken to the city of Cusco.
